The Archaeological Expedition to Khirbat Iskandar and Its Environs is a joint project of Gannon University and Sapienza University of Rome, operating under a permit from the Jordanian Department of Antiquities, under the joint direction of Suzanne Richard (Gannon University, Erie, PA) and Marta D'Andrea (Sapienza University of Rome), with Jesse C. Long (Lubbock Christian University) as a co-director.

The research focuses on a long-term project for the systematic archaeological investigation of one of the main Bronze Age settlements in Jordan and its surrounding ladscape, operating under a permit from the Department of Antiquities of Jordan. The research aims to understand the mechanisms of formation, growth, and decline of the earliest cities in this region through the study of a key site in the Madaba district. Alongside excavation and research activities, conservation and restoration work on ancient architectures is carried out with the goal of promoting the enhancement and interpretation of the site, in coordination with local authorities.
