Dates: August 24–28, 2026
Venue: The Norwegian Institute in Rome
This summer school, held in Rome during the last week of August, offers participants a hands-on exploration of ancient religious phenomena across East and West. Led by Michael Stausberg (University of Bergen), Céline Redard (University of Strasbourg), and Gianfilippo Terribili (Sapienza University of Rome), it combines the study of Avestan and Middle Persian texts from ancient Iran with visits to subterranean Mithraic sanctuaries in Rome. Participants will engage with both textual and material sources, exploring the scope and practices of cults devoted to the god Mithra, for an immersive and intensive week of learning.
